GenAI-assisted prototyping procedure
Definition
The GenAI-assisted prototyping procedure is a development workflow that combines a coding agent’s output with human review, testing, play, and handoff.
Explanation
I developed this workflow while building browser tools and games. The agent can propose a plan and produce code; I still need to decide what we are building and check whether the result does what the plan says.
| Stage | Work to do |
|---|---|
| Brief | Write the goal, constraints, and what completion means. |
| Plan | Ask the agent to propose decisions and give reasons for them. |
| Review | Read the plan, resolve assumptions, and approve or revise it. |
| Reconnaissance | Check the running project and source before changing them. |
| Build | Implement the change with the checks needed for its behavior. |
| Notebook | Record assumptions, unexpected effects, findings, and decisions that need a person. |
| Playtest | Use the build and compare its behavior with the plan. |
| Deploy | Publish the reviewed build and check the live version. |
| Handoff | Record the decisions and unresolved issues the next contributor needs. |
The notebook is useful because an assumption can be wrong even when the build succeeds. Recording what we expected, what happened, and what changed gives the next contributor a clearer starting point.
Scope and evidence
This is a reported development practice from the lecture. The projects demonstrate its use, but they do not establish a comparative productivity benefit or a general learning effect.
