Extremely Lifelike Fishing

Game

Extremely Lifelike Fishing is a 3D fishing game that runs in a desktop browser. You sit in a pedal-drive kayak on the open sea and fish with your own arms: each shoulder and each elbow has its own pair of keys, so a cast takes practice, as in QWOP and Vagrancy. The sea moves the kayak with swell, tide and current, and the pedals drive it straight ahead or swing the stern round while the bow holds its place.

The line is a chain of simulated points with weight, drag and stretch, and it snaps above its breaking tension. Fish follow a lure that moves and pauses, rush it, and spit it out unless you set the hook. A fish bites only when the hook is inside its mouth zone, and a scope strapped over one eye lets you watch that happen under the water. A hooked fish runs against the reel's drag until it tires.

This first version has one place, the Open Swell, with mahi-mahi and red snapper. Every rule runs in a Rust core in integer maths, compiled to WebAssembly, and the waves that lift the kayak are the same waves the page draws.

Playing it

Hold F, swing the rod back with I and forward with K, and let go of F as the rod passes upright. Let the lure sink, then press Space to close the bail and wind, in bursts with pauses. When a fish bites, sweep the rod up fast to set the hook. The arrow keys pedal and drift, the right mouse button holds the scope, and Esc opens the settings, where slower arms and steadier hands make casting easier. The page keeps nothing in your browser.
