Backbeat Pizza

Game

Backbeat Pizza is a deduction game in 3D that runs in a browser. A band of drummers sits on stage, and each one wants a single secret pizza. Your crew of Masklings, small robed cooks in white masks, builds pizzas at the counter and carries them up. A drummer takes a bite and plays a riff that tells you how he felt: a full fill and a crash for the right pizza, a groove that stops short when it is close, a flat, sour sting when something on it is wrong. Then he drops a hint in surfer-drummer slang, and it goes into his log.

A pizza is a miss when anything on it is wrong, close when nothing is wrong but a topping is missing, and perfect when it is the order. Over ten levels the band grows from one drummer to four, the menu grows from three toppings to seven with a sauce and then a crust to pick, and the hints change: early drummers count the wrong things and name one, later ones give the counts alone, and on the last four levels each drummer rates every part on its own: each layer right or wrong, and the toppings perfect, close or a miss. The whole band shares one patience, and you can serve one drummer while another is still tasting.

Every level can be solved from the hints. The core holds a solver that sees only what the drummers say, and a test plays it against every possible order of every level and checks that it always finishes within the level's patience. Every rule runs in a Rust core compiled to WebAssembly, and the page draws what the core returns.

Playing it

Pick a level on the title screen. Choose a crust and a sauce where the level has them, press the toppings you want, and press Serve under a drummer's name. The order log keeps every pizza each drummer tasted with his hint, and Rebuild puts one back on the counter. Everything is a button, so a mouse, a touchscreen or the keyboard all work. Nothing is kept between visits; every level is open from the start.
