Spatial injection
Definition
Spatial injection adds a visual or geometric constraint to a question as part of assignment perturbation.
Explanation
A counting question can require students to track where objects may be placed, rather than count combinations without reference to their arrangement. The added constraint changes what a valid solution must account for.
The important check is whether the new question still assesses the intended mathematics. The rubric should make the constraint explicit, and the instructor should verify that a correct solution exists before using the question.
A chatbot may overlook a placement restriction or count a configuration twice. Those are errors to look for, rather than outcomes the strategy guarantees.
Scope and evidence
This is one of three strategies described in the AIED assignment-design procedure. Evidence from that use does not establish a general failure mechanism across models.
