BT Lab
The opponents in Vagrancy use behavior trees to choose game inputs. This lab lets you slow a fight down and inspect that connection: which part of a tree ran on a given tick, and which keys the opponent pressed. Watch two opponents fight, or control one fighter yourself.

Inspect a fight, one tick at a time
Choose two fighters and start a match. Slow the simulation down, or advance it one tick at a time. After each tick, compare the part of the behavior tree that ran with the keys the opponent pressed. When an opponent changes what it does, look for the change in the tree and ask what happened in the fight that could explain it.
Read one tick as a chain of evidence. Start with what is happening in the fight, follow the portion of the tree evaluated on that tick, and then look at the keys the agent pressed. Those inputs are how the agent's choice reaches the game. Step again to see whether the same path runs when the situation changes.
